THE STARLING TEAM
CREATIVE DIRECTOR // BASIA GROCHOLSKI
Over the past eighteen years my experience has led creative and strategic teams working in physical and digital environments. In 1998, I launched my branding business 280:Design House in the East Village, working in all aspects of commercial and retail branding; from simple logo icons to more comprehensive branding ( A sample of past clients include: Barclays Bank, Bartle Bogle Hegarty, Fashion Institute of Technology, Lyn Devon, Network, 3M, SONY, Nickelodeon, MTV, AMC, Spike TV ). In 2009, I had the pleasure of being hired as the creative director for Genevieve Gordor’s ( a Celebrity Interior Designer from HGTV ) brand. For three years after that, I was the lead on-air designer for many renovation shows (HGTV, Food Network, DIY, Utilisima). I returned from those experiences with a stronger sense of space and design - more recently - you may have seen my packaging design in a retail store near you - that I designed for Salty Road. I may have worked in many creative sectors but my love and specialty is retail / hospitality branding, packaging and event design.
ELISE RITZEL // LEAD COORDINATOR
As Lead Coordinator, Elise Ritzel pairs her experience from the hospitality business with production coordination to execute events that are thoughtful, yet clear in execution. In addition to working with Starling on Bond, her position as Director of Programming and Producer for the CURRENT SESSIONS, a performing arts organization, has equipped Elise to undertake events that require an eye for detail, coordination with multiple parties, and the intuition to understand the needs of a client. Elise has perfected the flow of an event, through management of day, internal organization of staff, in-the-moment problem solving, and preparatory guidance of the client. Where passion and grace intersect, Elise hopes to reimagine events that have the capacity to provoke lasting memories surpassing time.
CHRISTINA READ NILSSON // LEAD FLORAL DESIGNER
As Lead Floral designer, Christina Read Nilsson brings extensive experience both in the design of floral-focused décor and in the management of full-service floral design for events. As a designer, Christina has an eye for innovative designs that transform editorial and marketing presentations and guest experiences. Her designs have appreciation for the unique ways that living, organic materials can be used in traditional and non-traditional methods to create specialized environments and visuals. Christina also has experience in client communications, proposal composition and sales, styling, sourcing and buying, and team management. She brings with her a talented team of designers and established relationships with local businesses and venues; including the Wythe Hotel, Kinfolk 94, and Frankie’s Brooklyn. In addition to managing the floral department for Starling, she has independently produced full service floral design for weddings and business events throughout New York City and the Hudson Valley. She also has considerable experience designing for other New York City based floral companies such as; Tin Can Studios, Kat Flower, August Sage & Violet, and B Floral.
